Most Aston Villa fans were completely on board with the club, in some ways overpaying, for centre-half colossus Tyrone Mings during the summer transfer window – but plenty elsewhere in the game questioned the claimed £25million all in deal with Bournemouth given his lack of relative Premier League experience.
Having quickly established himself as a leader in our first team group following his arrival last January, the 26-year-old more than played his part in helping us to, and then, success at Wembley in the Championship Play-Off Final and apart from a hiccup or two as the club adjust back to the top flight, Mings has again been a key performer for head coach Dean Smith in his eight appearances so far.
On Monday, Mings’ career took another turn as England manager Gareth Southgate gave him his bow in the qualifier against Bulgaria, and he continued to impress for a variety of reasons, in the 6-0 victory.
Speaking just ahead of the game to Talksport (via the Birmingham Mail) pundit Danny Murphy clearly thought international recognition was the next logical step for the lad, saying.
“He’s been terrific, he must have gone up in price. He is going to go places.”
A short comment, nothing exactly earth breaking in his words, but given the more sudden shift in the world of punditry to those who thought he was a massive gamble, and are now appreciating exactly what he’s capable of after his performance, and his professional attitude on Monday night – it’s nice to see some finally waking up.
After all, his price has just gone up a little bit further.
